Yikes! Insureds are calling DCS with reports of, well….let’s say “untruths” Unum is using to get people to agree to field visits. Deception appears to be the name of the Unum game lately.
G4S, Unum’s investigators are certainly going all out, as well as Unum’s finest claims handlers, who are still telling people, “We just want to verify your phone number and address.” Sometimes, Unum’s crap is just plain crap!
Insureds who are still talking to Unum on the phone may be asked, “So how’s your golf game?” One insured was surprised and responded, “But I don’t play golf.” Readers who think I’m all wet when I say, “No, you can’t play golf” may want to think about this one.
Apparently, G4S and the claims handlers at Unum are telling claimants they only have one page of template text questiions they need to ask, but also state the meeting will take two hours! Last field template of questions I saw was nearly 15 pages. How stupid does Unum really think claimants are?
Of course there is also the whole SSDI scam where Unum asks claimants to sign Authorizations giving up SSDI information. Unum never seems to disclose the reason for SSDI file requests, such as getting the listing code (Form 831) for the approval to determine if the claim is mental and nervous and should be denied after 24 months.
Clearly, Unum’s explanation, “We want to be able to give your claim every consideration” isn’t true at all when denial letters cite, “We disagree with the Social Security Administration” and claims are denied anyway.
Currently, Unum is still trying to “nickel and dime” claimants by recalculating, and recalculating overpayments and earnings alleging overpayments are due – yet another scam. No one is required to release Social Security information to Unum.
Since Unum’s reorganization in 2008 the company doesn’t “walk the talk” on fair claims practices; and the general public, being much more informed, isn’t buying the untruths Unum continues to hand out. Or, at least I hope not.
Please be aware and prepared for Unum’s deceptive motivations is trying to position field visits and other activities as a “good thing for your claim.” Deception is deception and Unum is not above using it to deny more claims.
