Just a quick mention to my readers that if any Unum claims handler tells you they have to speak with your treating physicians before rendering an approval, please note Unum is “full of it.” There is nothing in any Unum Plan or policy that requires a conversation with your doctor before approving claims. It’s just not true.
Conversations should be taking place between you and your physician reiterating that you DO NOT give him/her permission to speak with an insurance doc. Most physicians know better these days, but just to be sure make sure you remind your doctors what you want or don’t want.
In any event, be careful of information provided to you for now. Some claims handlers aren’t honest.
