Apparently, Unum has a new strategy of phoning insureds several times to “remind” them they have paperwork due. I really don’t know what the purpose of that is since most insureds DO turn in their paperwork on time. Is this just to give their claims handlers something to do?
I’ve heard that all claims handlers for all insurers have more than enough to do managing their backlogs and really don’t need the extra burden of calling claims handlers about due paperwork. In any event, if you’re getting calls to remind you about your due paperwork, just remind the rep that you’ve requested all communications in writing. If they have to put “the reminder” in writing, they won’t be “reminding” quite as often.
