Several encounters with MetLife recently show problems with menu and written communications to anyone trying to reach the company.
In fact, in my articles I have always described communications with MetLife as “waking the dead” anyway, but several claimants have reported difficulties specifically with STD and obtaining paperwork to get claims paid.
The relationships between MetLife and Employers seems to be broken while claimants are waiting for much needed funds. A short-term claim should in fact be, short term, but MetLife isn’t capable of paying claims in short periods of time.
Of course, MetLife has other problems. It outsources it’s SSDI overpayments to a company who cannot process repayments in a timely way either. It nearly required an Act of Congress for me to obtain a letter of payment confirmation.
Nothing is working right at MetLife. Please be prepared to deal with it, or ask for help.
